Haymitch choosing to spend his retirement raising geese, the most volatile, hateful, unfriendly animal there is- is so funny. I know for a fact Katniss and Peeta hear that man cussing out those birds when they attack him for no good reason. He just takes care of them while waiting for the liquor and I know it’s the stress of those unpredictable demon birds keeping him distracted. I bet he also has one that’s particularly mean and prone to attack and he’s named it Katniss.

Fun Home Rant

I just heard the news about the freshmen at Duke and other schools refusing to complete their required reading of “Fun Home” and it makes me so profoundly sad.  Experiencing both the musical and the book itself has expanded me as a person and I believe it is one of the most powerful pieces of contemporary art we have available to us.  The fact that there are students at the top schools in our country that are refusing to consider the themes and analyses present in the book because of a few drawings of gay people having sex is utterly mind blowing and heartbreaking.  It’s not pornography it’s a cartoon; and the good and understanding that would come from people experiencing this story far outweighs a few moments of discomfort.
